Did you know you can make plastic cups from sugar beets? The research documentary The Biocup: Local Action for Global Impact was made by two NHL Stenden students and their teacher and tells the development process of the biodegradable festival cup the Biocup. A seemingly simple cup, which hides a whole story behind it. For example, the plastic of the cup is made by hungry bacteria that converts sugar into plastic. It was designed and tested at Welcome to the Village, among other places, as part of the Cultural Capital 2018. This documentary gives an insight into how Frisian and Groningen entrepreneurs, researchers, designers and farmers can work together with one common goal: sustainable innovation.

Omschrijving
Two hundred thousand years ago, a glacier broke off a stone in Åland, an archipelago between Finland and Sweden, and pushed it to a spot where Borger now lies. Bart Eysink Smeets decides to bring the stone back home. Are the residents of Borger willing to let the stone go? Who does the stone belong to and what does the stone itself think? Who is responsible for it? The action soon becomes a public discussion, which the filmmaker uses to highlight man's meddling with nature in a lighthearted and humorous way in the documentary Bart en de steen die terug naar huis ging (Bart and the stone that returned home).
