Norse mythology has been highly influential throughout history and continues to inspire writers, artists, and filmmakers. Tolkien drew inspiration from Norse mythology for his immensely popular Lord of the Rings<\/em>. Sometimes these influences operate in the background, distilled into narrative motifs woven into new stories; at other times, there are direct references to the mythical characters themselves. Join us on a journey through a wondrous world of monsters and heroes, exploring films and series such as Game of Thrones<\/em>, Lord of the Rings<\/em>, The 13th Warrior<\/em>, Harry Potter<\/em>, The Ritual<\/em>, and Valhalla Rising<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Spotlight Talk: Sj\u00f3n<\/h2><\/div> \n

In conversation with Sj\u00f3n about film, writing, and his work. In this talk, we speak with the internationally renowned Icelandic writer and screenwriter Sj\u00f3n about the various films and works he has created over the years. Sj\u00f3n co-wrote The Northman<\/em> with director Robert Eggers, as well as Lamb<\/em>\u2014which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and made the shortlist for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for his lyrics for Lars von Trier\u2019s Dancer in the Dark<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Want to stay alive and<\/em> have a laugh? Then come to the latest show by Shetland comedian Marjolein Robertson, featuring magical creatures and folktales. Expect the very best of Marjolein as she weaves stand-up and folklore into an evening filled with magic, jokes, and hidden meanings.<\/p>\n

Marjolein was a finalist for Channel 4\u2019s Sean Lock Comedy Award and the BBC New Comedy Awards. She was also shortlisted for the prestigious Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On a remote Scottish island, a brother and sister survive by catching seabirds. They tell each other stories about their ancestors and defend the island against the dreaded \u2018outsiders\u2019.
