Het Noordelijk Film Festival onderscheidt zich door een uniek internationaal programma met een focus op het noorden. Het festival biedt een breed programma, dat verder reikt dan alleen film. In 2024 is het thema van het Noordelijk Film Festival ‘In beweging’.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Nordic Focus<\/h2><\/div> \n

Every year, we fly out from Friesland to the North’s most beautiful cinematic settings: from Iceland, through Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands to the Scandinavian countries and the Baltics. Northern Focus is the main programme of the Northern Film Festival, offering a strong selection of the latest international feature films and documentaries from this great northern region. Many films are specially imported from abroad and cannot (yet) be seen in Dutch cinemas and film theatres. This is also the reason why many films are subtitled in English.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n

Within the programme you will find a unique mix of feature films; from absurd, black or light-hearted comedy to historical, psychological or social drama, from a-typical action or crime thriller to arthouse, mystery and film noir. With the documentaries, we also present a nice picture of the cultural diversity within our broad Northern Europe. Be surprised, amazed and moved. \"Noorderkroon<\/picture><\/div> <\/div>\n\n \n

Noorderkroon<\/h2><\/div> \n

The Northern European selection of the main programme shares the screen with promising and professional films of all shapes and sizes from its own region. With the Noorderkroon programme, we provide a stage and stepping stone for professional filmmakers, up-and-coming talents, students and even amateur filmmakers, through the screenings and competition where the Noorderkroon Awards are distributed. You can find the 2022 winners here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The films in this programme were all made by directors or producers living in or from Friesland, Groningen or Drenthe. It may also be that the story is set in one of these provinces. In any case, there is a strong connection to our own regional north. Lots of films in this selection will also have their premiere at the festival and makers will often be present for a Q&A!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Spotlight: Trine Dyrholm<\/h2><\/div> \n

Jaarlijks zet het Noordelijk Film Festival een regisseur, acteur of actrice in de spotlights die zijn of haar sporen ruimschoots heeft verdiend. Dit jaar is dat de Deense actrice Trine Dyrholm. Dyrholm is al tientallen jaren h\u00e9t gezicht van de Deense cinema en het festival eert haar met een Spotlight programma van vijf films: Festen, Kollektivet, Nico 1988, Birthday Girl <\/i>en Poison. <\/i>Bovendien reiken we aan Dyrholm op de openingsavond de \u2018Award for Special Contribution to Northern Cinema\u2019 uit, een prijs die door de actrice persoonlijk in ontvangst wordt genomen. Op donderdag 14 november is Trine Dyrholm te gast voor een \u2013 ook voor publiek toegankelijk – uitgebreid Spotlight interview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Prison Pictures<\/h2><\/div> \n

Leuk zo\u2019n festivalthema \u2018In beweging\u2019, maar wat als je letterlijk gevangen zit en geen kant op kan? Met het programma \u2018Prison Pictures\u2019 presenteert het Noordelijk Film Festival vier films die zich in de gevangenis afspelen. Drie films worden vertoond in de oude gevangenis Blokhuispoort: het Deense drama Sons<\/em>,<\/a> de documentaire Into the Abyss<\/em><\/a> van legendarisch filmregisseur Werner Herzog en een voorpremi\u00e8re van de gloednieuwe film \u00e9n Oscar kandidaat Sing Sing<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n

Voor de echte beleving vertonen we ook een film \u00edn een nog operationele gevangenis; de Penitentiaire Inrichting Leeuwarden aan de Holstmeerweg. Binnen de dikke gevangenismuren kijk je naar de Deense documentaire The View<\/em>.<\/a> Na afloop is er een nagesprek met de gevangenisdirecteur, een gedetineerde en de regisseur van de film. Wedden dat je nog niet eerder zo geboeid naar een film hebt gekeken?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Sounds & Cinema<\/h2><\/div> \n

Met het programma Sounds & Cinema presenteren we schitterende muziekdocumentaires en een enkele speelfilm waar muziek een grote rol speelt. Bezoek De Kunstmatige Vriendin<\/em>, onder leiding van het Fries Project Orkest, laat je meevoeren door de klanken uit de Macedonische muziekscene, ontdek meer over een van de meest avontuurlijke Deense bands of waan je heel even in een oude klassieker: dit jaar is dat The Most Dangerous Game<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Films in the Memmetal<\/h2><\/div> \n

The majority of our visitors do understand Frysk. But what about Basque, Sami, Nauvhal, Kannada or Marathi? This year, the Noordelijk Film Festival presents a programme of films from so-called small language areas. The memmetal as an important expression of a (cultural) identity is something we know how to do in Friesland. But then how come so few films are made entirely in Frisian? Around that theme, we will organise a panel discussion with filmmakers and policymakers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Wadleven<\/h2><\/div> \n

Het Noordelijk Film Festival heeft zich ten doel gesteld een groener filmfestival te organiseren en het publiek met nieuwe inzichten te informeren en inspireren. In het verdiepingsprogramma Wadleven wordt dit voornemen onderstreept met een selectie interessante documentaires en mooie natuurfilms. Met deze films bieden we verrijkende inzichten in onderwerpen als klimaatverandering of het duurzamer en beter omgaan met de aarde. Bij een aantal van deze films zijn ook inleidingen of Q&A\u2019s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Specials<\/h2><\/div> \n

Our specials programme consists of a number of special events that are slightly different from ‘just film’. Many of these film screenings are organised in collaboration with other parties. How about a special archive programme in collaboration with the Fries Film and Audio Archive, a Film & Food special with delicious dishes by ROAST or this year’s smash hit: a secret cinema at a secret location!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

School performances<\/h2><\/div> \n

Through school screenings, more than two thousand primary and secondary school students are introduced to fine northern children’s films and the film festival. We collaborate with Schoolkade’s arts menu, but also invite all other schools in the province. A suitable film has been selected for each age group and free teaching materials are offered with each film, which are specially developed to accompany the films.
